BELCHERTOWN DEMOCRATS ELECT DELEGATES
Belchertown Democrats held a caucus Saturday, March 4 to elect delegates to this June’s Democratic State Convention. An unusually large turnout attended the meeting.
Belchertown Democratic Chair Ken Elstein was delighted with the turnout. He said in a statement, “With the new Administration’s meltdown in Washington, Belchertown Democrats are engaged to bring back sensible government. Republicans finally have full control, but after eight years of obstruction, they do not know how to govern.” He continued, “Democrats throughout the country know we need to bring accountability and respect back to government at every level, including here in Belchertown.”
Town voters have supported Democratic candidates in almost every national and statewide race for the past two decades. “However,” Elstein added, “this is not reflected in Town government.”
The Massachusetts Democratic Convention will be issue-oriented, and write a platform for state government. Democrats want health insurance for those with pre-existing conditions. Democrats want children under 26 to be able to remain on their parents’ plan. Issues like these are critical to voters, and also critical to the future of our local economy.
The Caucus elected these Belchertown residents to the delegation:
Christine Babineau, Beth Butin, Victoria Connor, Evan Dell’Olio, Jim Gambaro, Karen Hoffman, T. J. Howell, Dick Knapp, Mike Potishnak, Randi Shenkman, and Jim Walker.
