Campaign to Impeach Donald Trump Now
Why Congress Should Start an Impeachment Investigation Nowof President Donald Trump
A Conversation with John Bonifaz,
Free Speech For People Co-Founder & President
On Tuesday, April 11th from 6pm to 8pm, John Bonifaz, Co-Founder and President of Free Speech For People, will be speaking at the Community Room of the South Hadley Public Library, 2 Canal Street, to discuss organizing efforts and the case for impeachment.
Our nation is witnessing a massive corruption of the presidency and our government, far worse than Watergate. By refusing to divest fully from his business interests, President Donald Trump has been in direct violation of the US Constitution from the moment he took the oath of office.
We must not allow President Trump to profit from the presidency at the expense of our democracy—and in violation of our Constitution. The Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause (Article I, Section 9, Clause 8) makes clear that no elected official, including the President, may receive payments or financial benefits from a foreign government without the consent of Congress. The Constitution’s Domestic Emoluments Clause (Article II, Section 1, Clause 7) applies only to the President and makes clear that the President may not receive payments or financial benefits from the federal government or from state governments, other than his or her federal salary. No other president in our history has ever been in such direct defiance of these anti-corruption provisions of our Constitution.
Since Inauguration Day, The Campaign to Impeach Donald Trump has gathered more than 900,000 petition signatures calling on Congress to initiate an impeachment investigation. Launched by Free Speech For People and RootsAction.org, the campaign’s model resolution for impeachment has already passed in three communities, with more on the way. This event is free and open to the public. For questions related to press, email press@freespeechforpeople.org; all general inquiries may be directed to info@impeachdonaldtrumpnow.org.
